One of the major challenges in using family health history for risk assessment is that most families do not know their family health history. The goal of this project is to develop and pilot an interactive family health history tool that can be used as an app for tablets and smart phones. This tool will be geared towards family history questions leading to referrals and resources for Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer (HBOC) and Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer (HNPCC), then move potentially into Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH) and other cardiovascular hereditary diseases.
This interactive method of obtaining family health history will hopefully encourage more families to use the tool because it engages them in an environment they know. Different app design companies have reviewed the family health history information provided and are preparing proposals for the interactive family history app.
This project is currently on hold pending additional funding.
